Remembering Tambourine Rain – Working Draft Magazine feature

This was a personal history essay I wrote for Working Draft Magazine. It was about growing up as an Anisininew (Oji-Cree) woman, only later to find out I had oblates in my bloodline.

This was around the time I started wondering if reconciliation was possible within my own family, which I later found was.

Overall, the feedback on this piece was very positive, with many current and former youth-in-care reaching out to tell me it resonated with them.

I also created all the graphics for this article.

The Kindness Project – CreComm Assignment

This was an assignment for our Public Relations class. We were given a fake client, Kindness Inc., with a fake campaign to spread kindness to staff and students at Red River College Polytechnic.

Keep in mind, this was before Red River College rebranded to Red River College Polytechnic.

This shows my ability to write longer, more technical material. The whole report is 17 pages, including the cover.

Tourism Winnipeg Social Media – CreComm Assignment

This was an assignment for our Advertising & Marketing Communications class. We were to make a mock up for a simulated social media campaign for Tourism Winnipeg. Our target audience were Vancouver men and women who wanted to get away in April.

My big idea was a “Prove you’re #WinnipegTough” campaign that features a female boxer demonstrating her resiliency: by working out during a Winnipeg snowstorm. In the Facebook ad, she is shown punching a snowball. In the Twitter ad, she is shown eating a Magic In A Bun chicken sandwich (featuring Carolina Reapers) from Magic Bird Fried Chicken (a restaurant sadly no longer around). In the Google ad, we bring up Winnipeg and Vancouver’s conflict of a “wet” vs “dry” winter.

APTN and partners take home wins at 2023 Canadian Screen Awards – News Release/Feature

I wrote this news release/feature article for APTN while I worked there. It was about the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television announcing the winners of the 2023 Canadian Screen Awards.

Indigenous NHLers honoured with new rookie card set – News Release/Feature

This was a news release/feature for APTN back when I worked for them.

It was about Indigenous NHLers being honoured with hockey cards, specifically a new rookie card set.

Millennial Messaging – CreComm Assignment

This assignment was a peak-Covid-19 moment, as we were nearing the end of the semester and taking our classes online. The goal of the assignment was to create a target profile for different millennial audiences, breaking it down into Generation Z and Generation Y. To have fun with it, I nicknamed them “Gen Z” and “Gen Y,” who were a couple of ladies affected by the pandemic.
